Cinammon Rolls and Miracles

29 August 2005
"My back hurts again. I guess that is what we get when we walk a lot after rarely walking. We went about an hour early to the office because I wanted to make some cinnamon rolls - well I just needed to bake them and so I did. Well, after I baked them, and frosted them a bit I had to guard off Сестра Раиса. We had собрание округа and that went well. I had to teach Сестра Silva, and that went all right. She had a good question about seeing an angel. She wanted to know why she wouldn't see one for an answer. Well I did terrible, but it was good practice. After the lesson that I gave, we all went and ate the cinnamon rolls - плюшки на русском - and they were awesome. I worked on stats for a bit and then went with Elder Ehlert to the bank, and store. Elder Bennett made lunch - potatoes and chicken - what a great guy, and then we took off to give some money to a family that was in great need. We had about an hour and a half and decided to walk to the church. We thought it would be quick but it was a bit longer than we thought. We walked forever and we finally made it after our legs were dead. We had FHE and I had to translate again. I did really bad tonight and I had to think a ton. Well, Elder Lunt had a cool experience in Saratov with the patriarch Manfred Scheutze. When they were there he got stung by a bee and he is very allergic. Well he can die within 10 minutes but he has a shot that he can use. Well, he was going for the shot when he remembered that he was with other priesthood holders. The patriarch gave him a blessing and as soon as he did the swelling stopped and his finger went back to normal. What an awesome testimony of the priesthood power. After FHE we just came back here and now we are relaxing. I remembered that I talked with the twins (Орловы) and we talked a bit about their missions. They served together in Germany and saw each other a lot. They were even comps. Well, I told them they were lucky. I wish I could serve with my brother. Well, things are well here. I am tired, but that is good news. Back to work we go tomorrow!"

Priesthood Strength

28 August 2005
"Talk about a killer day and very unsuccessful also. We tried to work but nothing happened for us. This morning we went to church at about 9:40 and as we came up, everyone was standing outside. President Колцов is gone to Italy and that means that there was no one to open the doors - imagine the bishop is gone one Sunday so only missionaries can open the door. Well - it gets better here - they supported Лиза to be a member but just said "Те, кто поддерживают ее покажите правой рукой." Let's just support her -not as a member - well it makes no sense I know. There was then a baby blessing that went great - lol. So the Elder's quorum President - Sergei - got up to bless his baby, and he started like it was a blessing of health - not addressing Heavenly Father and saying "laying our hand on your head." Well, they discussed it and he started again, saying the exact same thing. Well Elder Bennett gave them the blessing card and he put it on the baby and just read. He read it straight and didn't give a blessing at all (the last words are "In the name...Amen.") Well it was sad - the elder quorum president didn't even know how to bless his baby! We got everyone out of the church after setting up some meetings. We came home and made ourselves some chili and relaxed a bit. We then met up with Брат Бликов and went to several addresses. Of course no one was home and we didn't know where to go. There was another huge part on the square and so we figured it would better to come back home and plan then to talk with a bunch of drunks. We set some goals, and worked on getting thins ready for this week. I am going to make some cinnamon rolls right now and hopefully they will turn out good. Who knows - I guess we will find out. Off to work I go..."

President Peiper

27 August 2005
It was a fairly good day today as we have been chilling and relaxing. I won’t do too much like I wrote yesterday as that was just an experiment to see how it would look there. Elder Pritchett wrote like that but I don’t write near as well as he does so that is too bad. Anyhow this morning we got up and cleaned the apartment up a bit – it was in great need as we haven’t for about 3 weeks. We got it all picked up and we did our laundry and I did my reading and stuff that I always do, and then we went to the office – here I would guess that means. We wrote home as always and I got to talk with President Piper a little bit as he was here for an interview for a missionary. Well we talked with him a bit and that was cool and I wrote home and the family seems to be doing well. My brother sent me some stuff he said so I am waiting for that. Well anyhow we tried not to waste too much time here. We ran home and changed the laundry out and then we went to the store. I threw down a lot of money, but I will be eating well for the next couple of days, and besides I have the money, so why the heck not use it. Well the main thing that I got ripped off on was the fruits as I thought they would be really cheap but it turned out different. Well we came home and we made lunch. I got some energy and made some really good salsa and it will be even better tomorrow. We ate it with rice and with пельмени. We then took a nice long nap – for about two hours before we got up and had to run to the church where we had a собрание зоны. It was pretty good and we talked a lot about how we need to be one in our companionships and how we need to do the work more as the Lord wants. We talked a lot about planning and a lot about studying together and all. Well anyways, my comp and I don’t do this because we never know really and we don’t plan well even though I want to plan more and all. It is just hard and we need to do better on it. We do study together when we have time though so that is a good thing. Well after the meeting, we ate some stuff and I ate way too much, but it was all good and I enjoyed it. We came back here to the office to open the doors for a couple of elders and then we have to work on a disc to give to Elder Piper. Well he will get it we hope but we don’t know for sure. Things will go well tomorrow I think as we have some meetings with Blinkov. I hope that things will go better, and we shall see for sure. As for now I have to finish this disc for President Piper.

What The

26 August 2005
I bought a new coat today. We ran to the office for yet again some helpless little elders and helped them get to the zone leaders and we continued our journey on the land of treasures and trinkets - my favorite place. We were on a quest to help the Ehlerts find a dead animal to wear (winter coat). After an eventful trip to the rinok, we began the hunt. Elder Ehlert found one he liked pretty quickly, but held back to play the field. After thousands of gypsies yelling at us, lying sellers telling us the jacked up prices, and people undressing in front of everyone, the Ehlerts both took their prey. A few quick words and prices quickly dropped 1000 руб. - they got away with a steal. I grabbed a greasy пирожки from an old grandma and then I found myself a winter run - a wool coat. We scattered off the rinok and grabbed a gazelle to get home. Other than the drunk dirtbag trying to give a grandma 10 руб for "services" and half naked women of all sizes we made it home with our prize. We headed off for another exhausting day in the burning sun and great walks in the office. The only exciting thing that happened was looking at some bored missionaries site (www.mission-possible.jino.ru). Вот, от куда такой стиль писания. Sister Ehlert reared up the stove and pulled together some peanut butter cookies for us hard writing missionaries. After our raid of the kitchen we got out onto the blazing roads of Russia. We began our trek to Вячеслав in order to save some kopekas and got there in time to watch "Finding Faith in Christ." On the way back to our den we worked on saving more money. So another day in the office went by without too much excitement and with a chance to move the work forward. Off to the bed for sweet dreams of Wendy's bacon cheeseburgers and long walks on the beach...

Wife Training

25 August 2005
Too much drama - that's all I can say about sisters. They just talk, and cry, and love and just do it all. And by the way - when you got 5 sisters in the office then things go crazy. They just love each other and hate things all at the same time. Well that is the story of my day. Well, I called Kirk this morning because Sister Петунц didn't know that President was sending her home Tuesday. Kirk called President and we decided to tell her in the office. Well we went to service but they had nothing. That was the last that I saw of Sister Gorlova. We went with the Ehlerts to eat at a pizza place that turned out to be decent. On the way home Elder Kirk sent me a SMS and said that I had to call Sister Petoontz and tell her myself. Well that was kind of dumb - I think that President should have done it himself. Well, I called and of course she started to cry. Well anyhow, the sisters from Penza were suppose to come in at 5 but didn't get there until 6. Well, of course we had to go there and wait. Well Sister Петунц talked with President and she is still going to be here. Well we helped the sister off and we hope that everything will be all right. Sister Петунц was happy after that and she told me about all that is happening. Well, we walked around and did some contacting that went pretty well and then we went back to the office to take some things. Anyhow, we have some really crazy days. Today was definitely a day for sisters. That is about all that we did was help them and work to get them to their new areas. Well lets just say that sister are a headache but Sister Ehlert tells us that it is good wife training so I don't look forward to getting married - lol - I guess we'll see.

Baptism

24 August 2005
It was a cool day today. We got in a full day of study this morning. We had a lot of fun getting ready for our lesson today, and so that was nice. Well, we went to the office and we started our day. We got some office work done and then we got to eating. We had the soup that we made on Sunday and it was good but sure didn't fill me up. Well, we had a really good meeting with Tom that went awesome. He understood, accepted, and asked a lot of good question. We taught about baptism and he agrees with it all. He seems to think that there is something that is going to scare him because he doesn't understand the reason people are so against us. We don't know how to explain it to him but we know he will get an answer. Well, after the meeting, I tried to work a bit but I couldn't really as брат Блинков talked my head off. We got out about 4 and went to the baptism for Лиза - the daughter of Ксения. There was a ton of people there and we had a ton of non-members there. Олег - a less-active member - brought his g/f and we want to work with her. We had a good time there, but the thing wasn't planned well at all. They didn't know who was doing what, but at least she got baptized. I stood in when she got the gift of the Holy Ghost so that was cool. It's crazy how unplanned things were and how well it went. They didn't even know who was conducting until the meeting started. We left and came home - we actually went to the office where I ate and then we came home. Now I have to do a few things and then we'll be heading to bed. Maybe then I'll be able to think a little clearer.

Pointless Service

23 August 2005
"We spent a total of 1 1/2 hours in the office today. That is probably a record for us. One of the main reasons is that we did some very ridiculous service. We thought that we were going to help Брат Винноградов at the home of Israel. He said it was by the дача and not on the дача. We basically went to the graveyard and we saw a bunch of cool graves. There was a ton of rich gypsies that were buried there, and it was sure insane. It was kind of crazy. It turned out that we had gone to move the grave stone for a person there. Анатолий told us that we didn't need any permission to move it but we told him we weren't going to move it w/o at least some kind of affirmation that we could. He went to find someone and then the guy said that we could. We then finished moving it and got out of there. We basically wasted a lot of time there. Well, we ate at McDonalds with the APs and had a good time there. We got to the office and then when we got everything going we had to leave to English. It was basically a waste of time there and only two people came. We contacted a little on the way home and then we got here. Well, I wasted a ton of money today on the transport. I spent a hundred roubles. I am glad that I don't have to pay a lot every day or I would die. It would be bad. As you can see my head hurts tonight so things aren't completely understandably here. I will finish up for now."
